Frans Koppelaar
Canals, alleys, streets, squares, harbours and ships, mostly
near his studio on the Westelijke Eilanden of Amsterdam, are pictured in an
impressionistic, figurative style. Smaller oil sketches and oil studies are
painted en-plein-air, while Koppelaar's larger oil paintings are composed
in his atelier. In his Urban Landschapes Koppelaar combines a traditional
style of painting with contemporary elements. Characteristic in his fine-art
is the handling of light, combined with a lively brush stroke and a colourful
palette.
